Emerald Ash Borer Confirmed in Winnipeg

The City of Winnipeg has announced that emerald ash borer (EAB) has been officially confirmed in Winnipeg. The confirmation came from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) on November 30, 2017.

The City of Winnipeg, Province of Manitoba, CFIA, the arborist industry, and non-profit organizations like Trees Winnipeg have been planning for EAB for some time; especially since the beetle was found in Thunder Bay in 2016. In preparation for EAB, the City of Winnipeg conducted an inventory of all privately-owned ash trees in the city, and has been assisting Trees Winnipeg every summer on a city-wide monitoring program since 2011.

For more information, see the CBC news article, and visit our EAB page to learn more about the beetle and how you can help.
