Become One in A Million
Established in 2019, the One Million Tree Challenge (MTC) calls on all Winnipeggers to help plant a million new trees in Winnipeg by the time our city’s population reaches one million people. Trees Winnipeg and the City of Winnipeg have been working together to inspire Winnipeggers to join their efforts in expanding our urban tree canopy. This program goes beyond the city's existing tree planting program to replace trees lost to insects, diseases, or environmental stress on public boulevards and parks.
Winnipeg’s tree canopy is in crisis — due to invasive insects and severe storms devastating our immense tree population. Trees provide many benefits, including improved air quality, reduced heating and cooling costs, increased property values, improved health and quality of life, and greener recreation areas. You can become one in a million by planting more trees, volunteering at tree planting events, and donating to support tree planting efforts in the city.
Take Action
Plant
We encourage participants to plant trees on their property, especially native species, which are available at nurseries and garden centres across Winnipeg. View our OMTC partners and suppliers. We also sell trees through our ReLeaf Program twice a year.
Register
Every tree planted makes a difference. Make sure to register your trees so they are counted towards the challenge.
